Ecoscape's Environmental & Business EthicsAt Ecoscape, our achievements as a sustainable landscaping business are as extensive and diverse as the services that we provide. We take pride in our accomplishments that we have achieved over the years and look forward to the challenges ahead to make our business a truly sustainable one. Through our land stewardship programs and business ethics, our goal is to be a true leader in the sustainability movement and landscape industry.

Ecological Design, Planning, & Landscaping Techniques:

  • Site Assessment – An ecological evaluation of your site is completed as a first step. This allows us to determine the sun patterns, soil structure, and natural cycles of your land. With this we can begin to understand your property and will grow best!
  • Appropriate Plant Selections – For our environment to conserve water resources.
  • Companion Planting Strategies – That helps to minimize the need for addition resources.
  • Drip Irrigation – Systems that deliver water directly to where it's needed, the root zone.
  • Integrated Pest Management Strategies – Eliminate the need for any chemical pest controls.
  • Mycorrhizal Inoculation – This beneficial fungi greatly helps to reduce transplanting shock, increase water retention capabilities, increase nutrient uptake from the soil, increase germination rate for seeds, and increase the plants vitality. We use it in the following practices;
    1. For all plantings
    2. For all seeding operations
    3. Chainsaw bar oil
  • Organic and Plant-Based Products – Natural fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides for all of our necessary applications.
  • Plant- based/ Canola bar oil – Used in our chainsaws for all forestry endeavors.

Water Conservation & Protection:

  • Water Harvesting Strategies – Of your roof water and site runoff that can be creatively, artistically, and effectively included in your landscape.
  • Drip Irrigation – Extensive use of drip irrigation systems that maximize water conservation.
  • Low Water Lawns – Appropriate grass selections for your lawn. You do not have to sacrifice aesthetics or comfort to cut your lawns watering needs in half. Native Plant Selections – And utilization of other appropriate, drought tolerant, naturally.
  • Extensive Mulching – Of all of our gardens helps retain moisture in the soil and minimize watering needs.
  • Resource Management – Proper management of materials on site to ensure we are not a polluting the local water ways.
  • Integrated Pest Management – Strategies that eliminate the need for synthetic sprays that inevitably leach into our local waterways.

Think Local:

  • Locally Produced Goods – Strong supporters of local businesses that stimulate the local economy, while reducing petroleum expenditures by minimizing transportation needs.
  • Recycled Products – Whenever possible making use of used or recycled materials during projects.
  • Uniforms – Purchase of hemp, organic cotton, and bamboo uniforms from local companies here in Boulder.

Reduce / Reuse / Recycle:

  • Composting – All organic matter from landscaping jobs is composted on site and at local, municipal composting facilities.
  • Recycling – Of all stone and soil resources at local facilities that prepare for reuse.
  • Conservation – Of all reusable products removed from job sites is brought to The Resource Yard, operated by the Center for Resource Conservation.
  • Reducing Landfill – All wood products from our tree operations are put to use as fire wood or sent to local mills for value added products.
  • Office Recycling – Of all bottles, cans, paper, plastic, cardboard, and paper board from our offices by The Green Girl Recyclers in conjunction with Eco- Cycle.
  • Reuse – All of our office papers, business cards, and marketing information are printed on 100% recycled paper products. We also reuse all scrap paper which actively minimizes our printing needs.

Alternative Energy Applications:

  • Renewable Energy Credits – Allows Ecoscape to offsets 100% of our office energy use with wind power credits from Renewable Choice Energy.
  • BioFuels – We currently utilize B-20 for several of our fleet vehicles and are actively working to integrate more biodiesel compatible fleet vehicles.
  • Domestic Petroleum – Ecoscape uses only domestically produced petroleum products.
  • Alternative Transportation – Ecoscape supports the use of alternative modes of travel for our employees by offering cash incentives.
  • Reducing Our Carbon Footprint – Ecoscape is currently analyzing the energy uses of our entire business operation. The ultimate goal of this endeavor is to offset as much of our energy use with carbon credits or renewable energy credits.
